LeParmentier
has appeared in over 50 films and television programs. Although born in the United States, his parents are from the isle
of Guernsey and Ireland, and he moved to the United Kingdom in 1974. Accordingly, most of his screen credits are in British or British-filmed productions.
His most prominent role was that of Admiral Motti, the arrogant Imperial officer who is choked by Darth Vader in Star Wars (1977). His last screen role was in 1992, and from 1988–92, he was also working as a screenwriter for British
television. He made his video game voice debut in 2004 in Soldiers: Heroes of World War II as a narrator. He has also made several appearances at sci-fi conventions.
LeParmentier was previously married
to the British actress Sarah Douglas, who is best known for playing the role of Ursa in Superman and Superman II. The two have appeared in several films together, including Rollerball, The People That Time Forgot, and Superman II. In 1976, they also both appeared in season 2 of the British sci-fi series Space: 1999, though in different episodes.
Admiral Motti is the
most high profile of all the Imperial Officers. He was the only Imperial to “stand up” to Darth Vader
and the only one who dared to ‘diss’ The Force.
As the first recipient of The Force Choke in A New Hope the
scene has been voted the most iconic Darth Vader moment in all six films and has become a Classic Movie Moment. The scene
has become a Star Wars staple and a version of it has been repeated in each film of the saga. It has also been parodied in
numerous commercials, stand up routines, films, TV trailers and sketches such as The Apprentice, SNL and featured in
The Simpsons, Big Bang Theory and of course, Family Guy. A new Admiral Motti figure is due to be launched. The
new figure is one of sixteen figures in a “Fan’s Choice” set and was voted by a fan poll last year. Richard
is popular guest with the fans at conventions and his Q&A is always highly entertaining.
